Health and Wellness Coach Training

January 26th, 2011

There are many training providers that offer health and wellness coach training. If you are aspiring to be a health coach and want to be trained by professionals, there are many things that you should definitely look out for when looking for a good training center. These things will help you decide on the best training center that will teach you everything you need to know about this profession.

Most schools provide health and wellness coach training that are divided into core classes and support classes. There are many principles and skills that are developed during the whole training and it’s important to know which classes are important in order for you to decide on the school that will teach you everything you could possibly need to become an effective health coach.

Generic coaching skills are one of the basics in health coach training. Look over the curriculum and find out if the school provides extensive training on this particular area. Generic coaching skills involve several models and approaches in coaching. This gives you a wide range of options in how to deal with different clients who have different health issues and concerns.

Core principles in coaching must also be taught. Not only will this be very helpful in your future career as a health and wellness coach, it will also make you more flexible and will prepare you to become a coach in whatever field you might find interesting in the future. Other coaching fields which you can apply with core coaching principles include life coaching, sales coaching, business coaching, parental coaching, financial coaching and others.

When you have learned all those core principles, it is of course very important to have courses that specialize in health and wellness. This is more specific and is a good complement to the basic coaching principles that you have learned on the first part.

Not only will this specialized coaching help you understand what needs to be done as a health and wellness coach, it will also teach you how to help your future clients in changing their lifestyle and their habits. These courses will teach you how to help people eat better, reduce stress, exercises, quit smoking and make other healthy choices based on proven scientific approaches.

Marketing is an important tool in health and wellness coaching. A well-trained wellness coach is able to attract clients and keep them in the program. A good training school should teach you basic and advanced marketing techniques that will help you attract clients without paying them and without massive forms of advertising on your part.

If you are checking out training providers, make sure that you choose the school where you can learn only from the best in the field. Review the people who will be teaching different techniques to you and make sure that they are qualified to be your wellness coach teachers.

Schools that provide a certification program, whether affiliated to an institution or not, is also an advantage. Certification does not only check if you are qualified to become a coach, it will also be an attractive part in your resume.

Schools of Natural Health Today

January 26th, 2011

Today, schools of natural health offer a variety of educational programs. Natural health colleges and schools provide training options from graduate degree courses to community outreach programs, to continuing education, and more.

Which course is right for you? Since you’ve already decided to pursue a career in natural healing, the next course of action should be to explore potential schools of natural health to determine which career-training program will best suit your professional goals. For example, if you would like to become a holistic wellness counselor, there are academic programs that offer certificates and/or diplomas upon completion of your studies in this field.

Schools of natural health are also very popular in offering unique training options in hypnotherapy, spiritual and emotional healing, energy therapies, reflexology, massage therapy, holistic nutrition, herbalism, and iridology, among others.

If you prefer working with your hands, a great number of specialty schools of natural health provide certification (and even associate degree) programs in therapeutic massage. While each academic course may vary from one to the next, basic studies entail anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology; but the greater variation presents itself in the specific modalities that are taught in each program. For instance, if you would like to learn Eastern bodywork modalities, there are schools of natural health that offer basic somatic training in Swedish massage, sports massage, and deep tissue massage, as well as Tuina, acupressure, and/or Shiatsu.

Additionally, natural healing schools that offer massage therapy as part of the curriculum typically entail 300 to 500 training hours; and depending on the level of education you would like to achieve, may well exceed 1,000 training hours.

Schools of natural health that provide herbology courses may integrate other alternative medicine modalities like iridology, flower essences, and essential oils into the overall curriculum. Though many Chinese medicine, naturopathic, and homeopathic programs include herbal medicine training; there are many schools of natural health that offer concentrated studies in master herbalism, botanical medicine, and even degrees in applied sciences in nutrition and herbal medicine.

If you (or someone you know) are interested in learning more about these or other natural healing schools, let professional training within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, naturopathy, acupuncture, Chinese medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! Generally, the majority of natural healing certification programs deal in mind, body and spirit medicines. For instance, you may find that some of these courses instruct in visualization techniques, homeopathy, yoga, macrobiotic dieting, reflexology, wellness therapies, personal growth, and therapeutic touch, among others.

Some specialized natural healing certification programs may be primarily geared toward Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and hypnotherapy; as well as Oriental medicine, plant medicine and holistic wellness.

Natural healing certification programs range in amount of training hours – while some may be completed in as little as a few weekends (i.e., Iridology), other courses entail more on-hands training and in-depth academic studies and may involve over 1,000 hours of study.
